Our Community

Welcome to Congregation B’nai Israel, a diverse community which respects the wisdom of its elders and welcomes its children. We embrace a wide variety of ages, backgrounds and styles of worship; we are a Torah Egalitarian community affiliated with United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

As you navigate our web site you will be given a virtual tour of who we are. Congregation B’nai Israel, however, is more than bricks and mortar. We are a community that is proud to feature the phrase “People Caring for People” on the masthead of our monthly bulletin.

The programmes we offer are the result of volunteer community involvement combined with the professional and spiritual leadership of our Rabbi, Eli Courante. Any organization, particularly a synagogue, thrives on new members joining and participating. New members bring new ideas, new energy and help us continue to grow. While we often see our present rooted in the past, we cannot allow this to become our preoccupation. A backward glance is important, but it is vital that our view of the present leads to the future.

Our progression to Torah Egalitarianism is an indication of our willingness to move forward. When combined with the recently completed Adult Group Bat Mitzvah, it confirms our desire to fully embrace the community at large.

Membership in Congregation B’nai Israel confers many privileges and offers full access to our daily and weekly activities. We have fully equipped kitchens and a social hall available for Kiddushes, special and family events. All food served at Congregation B’nai Israel is strictly Kosher and only caterers who can work to meet Kashrus standards are acceptable to our congregation.

We welcome people visiting the Niagara region and invite you to join us at any of our regularly scheduled services.
